Tips for a successful game

Making a successful game isn’t just about uploading your game to every portal, it begins from the day you start making the game. Here are a few simple but yet “never” used tips.

Tip #1: Use Bookmarking sites like Digg.

Digg, Stumbleupon are not only useful for website owners. Developers can also take advantage of their services. Upload your game on to a website (like flashjolt.com) and digg/bookmark the page on the bookmarking site. Get a few of your friends or other fellow developers to “Digg” it or vote for it on the bookmarking site and if your lucky enough your game should start recieving some extra plays. Not only that getting your game on sites like these can also help in the distribution of your games (as alot of portal owners do check these sites and may find your game interesting).

Tip #2: Log and improve.

Using analytic softwares like swfStats and mochibot may come in handy. Especially with SwfStats, track how your game is being played. Why the player quit the game, where its being played. This is a must do for any game but still some developers think it isn’t really useful. These stats are also great to show-off your successful games.

Tip #3: Player Experience, not Earnings.

Like most of us here, we do business to make money but putting money aside and working on improving your player experience could not only increase the money you make but also make you reputable in this business. It is also great to have some fans of your game. This also brings up another point: MicroTx, MicroTransactions are great. Good way for developers to make money but before adding it to your game ask yourself: Is this really needed? Would it wreck the user experience in any way or form?

Seriously this game is old, and has plain graphics but the game play still attracts thousands of players. The reason of success: Simplicity, Challenge and the addictiveness! (Kids/students love this game because they want to beat their friends score in school)

Desktop TD

Also an Tower Defence game. But one of the most famous and most played tower defence.

Reasons of success: Simplicity and Game Play.

Aye! its almost the end of 2009! Ahh what a great year. Alot of new stuff, FlashJolt.com Was released. Twitter (one of the biggest buzz this year) became a huge hit! Even Greater flash games were made by great developers! O ye! Call of duty 6: Mordern Warefare 2 was also released. And so much more. This year has been way better than the past years but what fun is it to end the year without playing some flash games Hey?!

So i picked some of the top games here to end the year with and hopefully we can see even better games submited for 2010 (twenty-ten is coming ).

Iron Turtle!
I am sure alot of you support me on this and i personally recieved a few good reviews on this game! Its another platformer but this game is just different to the rest that it will get you addicted in seconds. Even the Main Menu of this game is full of fun!

Hungry Shapes

This was the first game submitted to flashjolt but not only that it is a great game. Trust me it will keep you involved if you like strategy or puzzle games! A game with some cute graphics and some HUNGRY shapes! How Hungry is your shape?

Kill H1N1
What more fun action packed thriller game can you find? SiftHeads guys have done it again with their thrilling game!

And the runners up games!
4th – Rave Rider!
A great racing/driving game! with challenging level and thrilling maps!

And for the final game: LaserJolt: Sudden Attack!
This game has performed quite well on flashjolt and also has had some good reviews elsewhere!
